Yet Another Light Gun

Posted on November 27th, 2007 by Mark in Wii Accessories

nykogun1.jpgGiven that most of them are nothing more than large pieces of plastic you strap your controllers into, it is no surprise that third party producers just love to churn out “Wii accessories.” So you had to know that once shooter games started popping up, a slew of Zapper wannabes would be just around the corner. They are easy, cheap to manufacture, and sold at 20 bucks or more each, they translate into sick profit. The latest company to get in on the Zapper action is one who is already well familiar with the world of Wii accessories — Nyko. Nyko won a place in my ear with their handy Wiimote recharging dock, but caused small consternation when I discovered the rubberized grip which allows the rechargeable batteries to — you know — recharge, also prevents to Wiimote from fitting snugly into the official Nintendo Zapper. Presumably no such issue will exist with this thoroughly gun looking gun. Nobody’s fooling around with what this sucker is supposed to be, it clearly is a straight up handgun.

From the look of things, it doesn’t even have a slot for the nunchuck, only the Wiimote. One can expect the nunchuck will be wielded in the left hand as it normally is when your Wiimote isn’t plugged into a gun. Unfortunately, like all Zappers so far, it makes the other buttons on the Wiimote virtually unusable. Of course, with the cheap rail-shooter ports we’ve been offered so far, you really only need a trigger button.

Now since this thing looks so much meaner than the Zapper, WiiFanboy hypothesizes it will be extra encouraging in the “make children want to shoot people” department. In my capacity as an investigative journalist, I feel it is my duty to learn more. So when this Zapper makes its way to American shelves I’ll procure myself one or two of them and have at some zombies for awhile to see if it turns me into a killer. You know, presuming the other Zappers I own don’t do it to me first.
