Wiihabilitation - Doctors use Wii for therapy
Posted on February 11th, 2008 by Angela in Weird Wii News
Another positive admission for the Nintendo Wii comes from US rehabilitation doctors who are reportedly using the Nintendo Wii as a rehabilitation tool, coining the term “Wiihabilitation”. It is thought that the discomfort usually felt by patients undergoing physical therapy is somewhat lessened because of the interactive nature of the Wii.
The most popular games for rehabilitation patients are Wii Tennis, Wii Boxing, Wii Golf and Wii Baseball. In varying hospitals across the USA the Nintendo Wii is being used in patients ranging in ages from 8 to 80+ and it seems the fun nature of the device is working, with patients showing improved strength and coordination. Yay for the Wii.
It has to be said it was nice to finally read a medical / Wii story that speaks about how the Wii is helping patients and not making them (ie all those Wii injury reports).
