Wii Sports added by the IOC

No of course it isn’t true, it’s one of those spurious news items that some sites do. This one was fairly amusing and by the people over at SSNN (Serious Sports news Network). The article titled ‘Wii Sports added to 2012 Olympic games’ is a faked press release of a press conference in Switzerland by the International Olympic Committee. The President of the IOC states:
“We would like to formally welcome Wii Sports as a part of our olympic competition,” Rogge said, smiling, in front of a crowd of thousands. He goes on to say “We felt like it was time to step forward and embrace a new form of physical activity that children are interested in,” Rogge said, “cause let’s face it, kids just aren’t getting into badminton, hammer throwing, or synchronized swimming like they used to.”
The article also states Iwata is present and states via a translator “We are pleased that the IOC has welcomed our wonderful console into their family with an open heart,” gesturing wildly but using a translator. “We look forward to many prosperous years together. Additionally, suck it, Sony!”
If only the big companies were so honest, it would make a nice change. Needless to say Wii Sports isn’t being added as an Olympic sport, but we’ll no doubt see plenty of Olympics on the Wii as they draw ever closer.
