Wii Outsold by PS3 in Japan?

According to comparitive sales figures released in Japan, the PS3 has outsold the Wii for the first time in the territory. The news hit bastion of usually fairly good reporting ‘Reuters’ on Friday, but as the weekend wore on, it appeared all was not as it seemed. The sales figures were for the November period in Japan and suggested the Sony PS3 had sold 183,217 in Japan in the four weeks to Nov. 25, whilst the Nintendo Wii apparently had sales of 159,193. This was according to game magazine publisher Enterbrain, a key watcher of trends in the sector.
Great news for the PS3, which has been flagging somewhat due to a slow release schedule, but then it’s only good news if it’s true and according to various other reports, it isn’t. According to other sources the Japanese Hardware chart for the period actually suggested the PS3 sold around 400 units less than the Wii for the period. I’m not big on figures and analysts (as let’s face it, a lot of the time it’s spin or doesn’t tell us much at all), either way those are some good figures, but when compared to the sales figures of the DS Lite, not so good. It all depends on the angle of view.
