Wii Loves Resident Evil

re4Despite Capcom’s odd desire to not publish Resident Evil 5 on the Wii (although we will be getting a sure to be enjoyable RE rail shooter), Wii fans continue to express their love for the franchise. So much so, in fact, that the port of Resident Evil 4 has now moved over one million copies for the Wii. That’s right, a game which has already been thoroughly played by most serious gamers has sold an additional million copies — no doubt many, many of those to people who already own a version of the game for a different system, such as yours truly — based largely on nothing but the anticipated joy of playing the game on the Wii’s fantastic new control system.

Obviously, this says tremendous things about how much gamers are enjoying the controls of the Wii. People can continue to insist that it is a “gimmick” all they want, but let’s be honest here — the controls are fun, and they bring a new dimension to games, even old games. Hopefully the success of this port will encourage Capcom to bring more titles our way. Maybe even some new games.

i bought this game as i thought the Wii controller/Nunchuck would work well together in it. what i specifically look for from a controller is a mouse look function built into either the wand or the chuck. since reviews rarely talk much about controller movements, you end up buying the game and hoping it can do what you want. well, for this game it does not. you are still stuck with rigid analog joystick movement (at least front to back movement) through ye olde stick on the chuck. left to right movement is to turn rather then move/straff L-R, as one would expect. so if you want to go around a corner you do the familiar forward/turn right/forward zombie like movement. the target circle would have been much more usefull to be a combined target/mouse look combo. oh well. rentals first from now on.
