Wii love girls - Girl gamer magazine

Girl Gamer UK magazineI don’t like reporting on things I haven’t actually seen, tried myself, but it’s a writers job to write so sometimes you need to just base things on all the information at hand, in this case a press release.

Future, the special-interest media group – has announced the second issue of Girl Gamer, the UK’s first games magazine for girls, produced in a unique publishing partnership with Panini. The title is an extension of Future’s fast-growing Official Nintendo Magazine – and the second issue of Girl Gamer will be included FREE with Easter issues of Panini’s monthly title, Bliss – aimed at 12-16 year old girls and the fortnightly Mizz – targeted at 10-14 year old females.

Okay so it is aimed at young female gamers, I can deal with that, but why oh why do they have to use content that is tainted with sexist overtones to ‘appeal’ to this audience. Of course Cooking Mama is on the front with the subtitle “learn to cook on your DS” oh yay!! To top it off there is of course, as you might expect a pink DS on the cover too.

On the upside it does say “Wii will rock you – All the Wii games you’ll ever need to buy”. I’d love to see what they have listed in there, so if anyone buys it when it’s out please comment and let me know. I’d hazard a cynical and rather jaded guess it will be Cooking Mama, High School Musical, Hannah Montana and other inane ‘perky’ fun titles. Pass me a bucket.
