Wait, You Want it to be Cheaper?

Wii Console PicWas there some kind of uprising regarding the price of the Wii which somehow escaped my ever-so-hawkish attention? I ask only because in my regular search for Wii news I’ve started encountering articles with headlines like “Nintendo Not Budging on Wii Price” (from Dealerscope) and “Nintendo Wii Price Will Be the Same” (from TechGadgets). It seems that George Harrison, Head of Marketing for Nintendo US, recently dropped this bit of “news” on Reuters. Those crazy kids over at Reuters must feel like they landed an incredible scoop with that bomb, let me tell you.

To summarize, a company which is selling every unit they put on the shelves; a company which is in fact unable to keep supply high enough to match demand, is NOT planning on selling their product for a cheaper price. Can you believe it? Ask your average 7th grade economics student what happens when demand is high and supply is low. I’ll bet the answer is not “product gets cheaper.”

Let’s be honest with ourselves here. The Wii’s primary competition is selling for a good C-Note higher, and that other system costs roughly the price of a small country. Heck, my parents dropped 200 bills on the original NES when they gifted it to me on that glorious Christmas some 20 years ago. I’ll grant you the Wii SHOULD be selling cheaper than those other guys — after all, the hardware inside is significantly less intimidating — but there is no reason to be disappointed with a modest 250 dollar price tag. You can take the money you saved by deciding not to buy a PS3 and get yourself a new private jet.

yeah, seriously.. some people are selfish morons.. they just want whats best for themselves. Just because the other companies are doing it, doesn’t mean you have to follow.. let alone know for certain, if it’s a good change or not.

(The current price is reasonable and affordable enough, imagine the chaos that would ensue if the price were lowered x_x, not to mention lost profits)
Regardless, not to sound like a biased fangirl, but I’ll support Ninty all the way ^-^ (since the beginning)
