Umbrella Chronicles - a ‘Wii’ review

Wii Umbrella ChroniclesOkay it’s really a ‘wee’ review, since I don’t really feel this title needs pages and pages of spiel. I’ll cut to the chase, I wish I’d never stood under this particular Umbrella.. ella… ella… eh eh eh. I certainly wasn’t expecting what I got when I forked over my eighty bucks and I only wish the store did “this game sucked” refunds, but alas they don’t.

Here’s where it all went wrong and as Randy from the Scream movies once said “there’s a formula, a very simple formula!!” and with Resident Evil it is this, Zombies, a semi wonky control mechanism that you love to hate and a really crappy story that you can’t help but get into. Sadly Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles only had the Zombies.

As a light gun game, this is okay, maybe even fun. Reviews seem to be suggesting it certainly has something–I’m just not sure what it is. To add to this in a sort of twisting the knife kind of way is the inclusion of Rebecca Chambers. If you’re a female gamer, she’ll be the character you’ll probably choose to play, but you’ll wish you never. Rebecca is meant to be a well trained S.T.A.R.S. member (a chemist apparently), but she’s weak, lame and irritating. She is the epitome of a female games character that conforms to the weak female, much to the chagrin of many a female gamer. If you want a light gun game, sure why not give this a shot (hoho), if you want another Resident Evil title, get Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition…. At least in this gamers opinion.
