If you’re old enough to remember, you’ll likely recall that the Kid Icarus rumors pop up every time Nintendo releases a new console. Particularly in the days of the SNES — you simply couldn’t stop hearing about the return of Pit on a new game. However, it sadly never happened.  Despite being widely recognized as an important (and really fun!) title in the days of the NES, Kid Icarus has really gone nowhere since.* The SNES came and went … then the N64 as well … and the Gamecube … all with Kid Icarus rumors, none with Kid Icarus games.

But now Pit is resurging in Smash Brothers … and the rumors are back! Is a new Kid Icarus game coming? Kombo has this to say about a newly announced Factor 5 title:

Kombo has learned from a credible source that said Wii game is in fact a new installment in Nintendo’s cherished Kid Icarus franchise. According to sources, Factor 5’s KI title is being developed ground-up for Wii. It will not use one of the developer’s previous GameCube graphics engines. Unfortunately, at this time, no other details have been provided to us for publish.

Of course this is wild rumor for now, and nothing else. But if we’re living in the world of rumor, I certainly want it to be one where the company bringing back Pit is doing so with a new engine, instead of the good but tired Gamecube engines. *Except, of course, the Game Boy title in the early 90s.
