Queen Elizabeth, Wii Bowler

queenelizabethii.jpgNot only is the Wii a hit amongst the elderly in retirement homes and the like, it is also apparently a hit among the elderly in Buckingham Palace. Yes, her Royal Majesty is said to enjoy a good throw down on some Wii Sports Bowling. As the story goes, Prince William received the system from his girlfriend Kate, and Queen Elizabeth was so interested she asked to be included in the next round.

I love this story because personally, it humanizes the Royal family for me. Being a Yank, I naturally don’t have a bevy of knowledge on the royalty of England. However, I do have a bevy of knowledge on grandparent-grandchild interactions. As a gamer, I told wonderful delight in introducing my grandparents-in-law to the world of video gaming through the vehicle of Nintendo Wii Bowling. It was a fantastic cross-generational connection, throwing down on some ten-pin with them — and grandpa was pretty impressive. His old bowling form served him quite well. As, apparently, did the Queen’s. It is nice to know some experiences are universal.
