Opoona – Changing How Role Playing Games Are Experienced

Koei has announced that Opoona (previously covered here), a new RPG exclusively for Wii will be hitting the shelves in America on March 25 2008.
The background on Opoona pits you as young hero Opoona who’s crash landed on Planet Landroll after his spaceship is involved in a mysterious accident. Separated from his family and having to survive on his own, Opoona must find a job, search for his family and defend himself from the Dark Rogues. Thankfully he is a descendant of a group of warriors known as the Cosmo Guards so he has some natural skill.
The game features action –oriented battle systems the makes use of the Nunchuk and the developers are claiming that this gives a refreshing and new perspective on the role-playing genre. All of Opoona’s commands are actually controlled by the Nunchuk meaning the game is almost a ‘single hand control’ title. As it’s an RPG, Opoona has to develop an understanding of his new environment, meet new people and contribute to his new society. As with any decent RPG, he’ll progress through time and uncover various activities and clues to help him find his family.
The artwork is created by Art Director Shintaro Majima and feature a variety of ancient ruins right through to futuristic buildings. The game is developed by ArtePiazza, those behind Dragon Quest.
