Nyko’s Wireless Nunchuck

nykowireless.jpgNyko is rapidly becoming my new best friend. I’ll be the first to admit that 3rd party accessories are generally a risky proposition — sometimes they rock it out, and sometimes they just fall apart. I am, personally, a sucker for accessories. I love tricking out my game systems like a rapper tricks out his hotrod.* And in the modern world of Wii accessorizing, Nyko is rapidly showing that they are able to bring the funk.

First, they produced easily the most important Wii add-on of the inaugural Year of the Wii: the Nyko Charger. For 30 bucks you can have endless battery life for two of your remotes, and for an additional ten you can outfit any other remotes you have with the battery/battery cover combo necessary to get in on the recharging action. Then they released the pistol grip Nyko Perfect Shot, a wonderful little light gun.

And now? Well now Nyko is doing what we’ve all been begging Nintendo to do since launch — free us of our final shackles. While the wireless nature of the remote is fantastic, there is no denying the irritation of the short cable connecting the nunchuck to the remote. If anything, the freedom of one hand only serves to emphasize the limitations of the other. Until now. Nyko proudly presents a Wireless Wii Nunchuck to go on sale next month. Will Nintendo follow up with a wireless of their own? Probably. But until then, let us all hope the Nyko version actually functions well. You can bet I’ll get my hands on one as soon as I can and let you know what I think.

*If I were able to, I’d make some sort of “pimp my ride” joke right here, but I just don’t have it in me.
