Nintendo Wii Challenged By a Real Winner
Posted on January 09th, 2008 by Mark in Weird Wii News
Every now and then, news comes along that just makes you chortle. Today’s post is one of those. Clearly, pirating is a rather profitable business. Music gets pirated, movies get pirated, and video games certainly get pirated. Sometimes, video game systems even get pirated — just ask the Vii. Typically these hacks have a built-in humor value to them, but rarely is that humor value quite as high as it is in the new PS3/Nintendo Wii knockoff, the Winner. Yes, they went for the gusto right up front with a name like that.
The Winner looks rather like a PS3, and tries (no doubt rather feebly) to mimic the media capabilities of the Playstation. It “boasts” a photo player, media storage, and the crowning grace of all funtionality — karaoke capabilities. On top of this, the Winner also features a “controller” which looks remarkably similar to the Wiimote. It promises inferior graphics and some online gameplay with motion sensitive capabilities. Of course, it also promises several hundred thousand systems on North American shelves for a price of $150 or less. If it somehow managed to pull that off, it’d probably trick at least a few unsuspecting grandparents.
