Do you remember the Dreamcast? I do. I loved that console as it I had created it myself — outside of the original NES, I’m not sure any video game system to date had ever made me happier. I will forever believe Skies of Arcadia is one of the absolute best RPGs ever produced.* And of course, let us not forget the fantastic Jet Grind Radio or the pure joy of multi-player Soul Calibur.

Not only do I remember the joy of the Dreamcast, I remember the devastation of its defeat at the hands of pirates, because — let’s be honest here — there has never been a game system as easy to copy games for as the Dreamcast. It was more difficult to butter bread than it was to pirate Dreamcast games. And that cuts down pretty drastically on sales. Which had the end result of leaving me jaded and bitter towards video game pirates.

I’ll get this out now — if you are into pirating games or whatnot, no worries. I’m not against you, and I’m not telling you not to do it. Your call, and whatnot. I’m just using these memories as a segue into a discussion about the newest bit of news floating around. Nintendo Co. apparently just raided that hotbed of all piracy hotbeds, Hong Kong. Nintendo dropped the hammer on Supreme Factory Limited, seizing more than 10,000 illegal copying devices. Personally, this pleases me, although I’m not all that worried about piracy killing the Wii. The companies involved have gotten wise enough to make it at least slightly difficult to pirate their stuff. You’ve gotta be a good 10 or 11 years old to pull it off these days.

*If you haven’t played it, I highly suggest you snag yourself a 20 dollar copy of the updated Gamecube version and pop it into your Wii. It will provide you with endless hours of RPG entertainment.
