Nintendo Denies Kart Rumors

Posted on January 30th, 2008 by Mark in Wii Gaming

Mario Kart WiiHey Angela, maybe you can come back from your corner, at least for a little bit. Turns out those Kart rumors making the rounds yesterday are apparently not entirely true. Well, they may be true, but Nintendo is choosing to deny them for awhile anyway even if they are. So to sum up, the following details are officially not official, according to Nintendo:

  • Snaking and Sliding
  • Baby Peach and Boo
  • 32 tracks, 16 old/16 new
  • Excite Truck controls

And now the “Mark’s Thoughts” version of the above:

  • Snaking and Sliding — Let’s face it, Nintendo is in love with this stuff. While yours truly loves to throw down on some blue sparks, I tend to like doing it only around, you know, corners. Those of you who enjoy “snaking” down the straight stretches, good for you. For me, it takes the fun right out.   VERDICT: Some good, some bad. Expect to see it back.
  • Baby Peach and Boo.  Meh, whatever. As long as Yoshi is here, I don’t care at all.  VERDICT: There are always one or two “new” characters in the Mario games, these two are as good a guess as any.
  • 32 tracks, 16 old/16 new. Nintendo has scored well in recent games for throwing in some “retro” tracks. We all like it, and it enhances playtime.  VERDICT: There will be a mix of old and new. It may not be a flat 16/16 split, but this sounds like an okay guess to me. The more the better.
  • Excite Truck Controls. Am I the only guy in the world who still throws down on Excite Truck? Sure the controls were a bit sketchy, but some good ideas were there. And let’s be honest, there is no one better than Nintendo at utilizing the heck out of their own hardware. Nintendo will make it work as smooth as it can possibly work. VERDICT: I doubt it’ll work exactly like Excite Truck, but I imagine the same ideas will be there — turn the Wiimote like a steering wheel to turn your kart. But Nintendo is a wily company, don’t be surprised if they offer you an alternative “standard” controller utilizing the nunchuck joystick for control — or even the classic controller.

Nintendo, some of this may sound sketchy, but you rarely disappoint with your big deal titles. I’ve learned to trust you, and so trust you I will. Don’t let me down.
