I Suppose This is Why They Aren’t Called Video Games R Us

trumariokart.jpgIt seems as though the Giraffe has made a gaffe.* In an advertising photo published on the website and seen above, the popular (well, sort of popular, anyway) toy distributor Toys R Us previewed the much anticipated Mario Kart title for the Nintendo Wii. Unfortunately, they did not preview it with actual Nintendo material — rather it seems as though the box art featured in the ad is actually a fan creation.

The cover on the banner actually comes from a website called VGBoxArt, a fact discovered by a clever GoNintendo reader. VGBoxArt allows contributors to mock up their ideal cover for games they enjoy. Blogs everywhere are now guessing whether this was an intentional grab due to lack of actual box art material, or an accident made by a lazy employee using a quick image search. My vote is for the latter. Yours?

*Yeah, I can’t really believe I went there either. What a terrible line.
