Harvey Birdman in Retreat?
Posted on October 22nd, 2007 by Mark in Release Dates
I’m not sure how to go about approaching this news, because frankly, I’m not the key demographic here. While I don’t deny the general awesomeness of Harvey Birdman, I’ve never been a big fan personally. For that reason, I haven’t really been waiting with baited breath for the release of the Harvey Birdman Wii game. Honestly, I’m not really sure how many people are really looking forward to it, and apparently Capcom has similar concerns.
If you hadn’t noticed (and admittedly, I hadn’t noticed until it was pointed out to me), the release date for Harvey Birdman has suddenly disappeared from most retailers, replaced by a vague “in the future” sort of time frame. The official explanation from Capcom goes something like this: Hey, a heck of a lot of games are being released on/right around the release date we had initially targeted. And frankly, we’re afraid our title will get lost in the pile. So we’re moving it around a bit so we’ll stand out more on the shelves when we release.
This isn’t a particularly unusual idea for a video game developer — the thread of being overshadowed by other flashy games is a very real one. I, for one, really hope the game sells like hotcakes, simply because I always hope for solid, successful Wii titles — especially coming from third party developers. So let’s all hope Capcom’s wait it out strategy works for them.
