Hardware Shortage Picking Mario’s Pocket?

Seriously, you have to love spin. Because without spin, we couldn’t have headlines such as “Wii Shortages to Cost Nintendo 1.3 Billion this Christmas.” Really, Mr. Market Analyst? Really? Raving success and insane market demand is costing Nintendo money? You know, the last time I looked, Nintendo was like Scrooge McDuck, swimming around in their giant pool of money. Between the Wii and the DS, Nintendo is practically printing their own currency these days.
Yes, captain economist, I hear you clearing your throat over there, getting ready to give me a lecture in supply side econ. You can save your breath, because I promise, I understand. What we’re really saying here is that if Nintendo had the capacity to make enough product to meet demand, they’d be able to sell over a billion dollars more in merchandise. Still, it is fantastically amusing to hear people telling me that Nintendo is losing money. Tough to be a pudgy Italian plumber these days, I guess.
