Guitar Hero III Sells for $9100

Is this a ploy, is this a scam, whatever the case the eBay auction that saw an Australian pay $9100USD for Guitar Hero III on the Wii has had over 60,000 hits. The game hit eBay when an angry Canadian dad caught his son smoking dope with his “delinquent friends”. The dad had purchased the game for his son for Christmas and was promptly placed on eBay to teach the son a lesson.
Things went nuts as they tend to do every few months on some random gaming item on eBay and the item was sold to an Australian dad desperate to get the game for his kid. Now here’s the thing… I’m based in Australia and when I was in the shopping mall a couple of days ago, I saw no shortage of GHIII on the Wii, in fact, quite the opposite, you can still stroll into any store here and buy a Wii itself.
So with this information in hand, does it seem likely that some Australian dad was so lazy as to not check his local game store that he blew an additional 9 grand on the game? Highly unlikely. If it is true, I think the buyer has more problems than the pothead son mentioned within the auction.
On reading the eBay description, it seems the angry seller dad has decided the humiliation is a lesson learnt and his son can still have the game for Christmas. He also says the whole experience has kind of acted like a bit of a bonding exercise.
