Final Fantasy WiiWare

Like a fly to honey, like a moth to flame, like an internet writer to a bad cliche, I am forever drawn to anything with the Final Fantasy name. Despite my blatant and persistent Nintendo Fanboy-ism, I do dabble in other game systems — mostly for titles I just can’t get on the Wii, like certain Final Fantasy games. Sometimes, Square (Enix) and Nintendo please my soul by teaming up for Nintendo exclusives, and one of the biggest children of the recent Nintendo-Square union is the new Chrystal Chronicles franchise. I was lucky enough to be in college during the release of the first FF:CC game, so I had three other people with GBAs nearby to throw down with me.

You can certainly imagine (and many of you probably share) my delight when Nintendo announced an FF:CC title for the promising WiiWare. Little King and the Promised Country follows the adventure of a guy trying to rebuild a town/city; and just recently some actual details have started to leak out about the game. Apparently, Crystals will endow special powers (imagine that!) called Architect Powers which you’ll use to reconstruct your little world, and to use these powers you’ll have to unlock elemental skills from nearby dungeons. But since you’re a busy king and whatnot, you’ve got minions to do that for you — all you have to do is assign them the jobs when necessary. As you build, you’ll need to make choices based on priority, because what you build will affect your future building capabilities. So basically it is everything you’d expect from a town builder sim, but set in the fantastic world of Crystal Chronicles. For a sweet cost of 15 dollars (in the form of Wii points, of course), you can definitely sign me up.
