Capcom and Nintendo Catfight?

Posted on February 06th, 2008 by Mark in Wii Gaming

capcom.jpgIn a weird bit of news, the rumor mill is currently suggesting that Nintendo and Capcom are currently not BFFs. Despite the very strong relationship between the two, with Capcom doing so well creating Nintendo games, it seems there may be some bad blood. Why, you ask? Apparently it stems back to Resident Evil 4. Remember how that game was huge when it launched? It was considered a major coup for the Gamecube, which had scored very few truly important third party titles.  However, the game did so very well indeed that Capcom felt it simply wasn’t fair to leave it only on the Gamecube, which a ton of gamers did not own. So Capcom dropped the exclusive and hit up the PS2 and the PC.

The rumors say Nintendo is still angry over Capcom for eyeing up other suitors. And how are they displaying their anger? If you believe the rumors, they are displaying it by refusing to include Capcom characters in Smash Brothers. The game is no longer exclusive to Nintendo characters … so you’d expect that at least one of Capcom’s highly popular characters would have found their way in. But they didn’t. Was Capcom not interested, or was Nintendo feeling spurned?
