Still hunting for that elusive Nintendo Wii? With the holiday season looming ever closer, it certainly isn’t getting any easier to track down everybody’s favorite game system. Everybody knows it is hard to get your hands on a Wii, and a certain small band based in Joplin, MO, is trying to take advantage of that fact. In an effort to drum up crowds and sell some merch, power-pop punk band Sounding The Silence is running a “win a Nintendo Wii contest.” The members of the band pulled some pocket cash together to purchase a Wii, and will be giving it away to the lucky winner of a two day contest. To enter, fans need to show up at one of two shows — either Nov. 9 or Nov. 25 at the Foundry (venue) in Joplin, and drop at least five bucks at the merch table. After the show on the 25th, the band will draw a winner and hand over the system.

Interesting tactic, to be sure. I can’t quite decide what I think about using incentives to draw fans to a show — but if baseball teams can give away bobble-head dolls to get you to show up, why can’t a band give away a game system, right? It makes for an amusing story, anyway.  Check out their MySpace for more.
