Remember a few weeks ago when Angela filled you in on the pending lawsuit against Activision? In case you don’t, let me give you the very short version: Guitar Hero III for the Nintendo Wii promised to launch with Dolby Surround (naturally) but somehow managed to ship the game in mono. For a game which is, essentially, entirely based around sound, this is a rather large mistake. And some really angry fan decided to take the issue to court.

Activision, it seems, has got the message. Whether the mono thing was an honest mistake (which I hope to be the case) or a really idiotic active decision, they’re backpedaling like mad now that consumers have realized the problem. And at what is no doubt somewhat significant cost, they are now pressing new copies of the disc with actual surround. Or at least, they say they are. I suppose we’ll have to wait until we see it to be sure. So for those of you who purchased the failed first attempt, Activision will replace it for free.
