What happened to Spore on the Wii?

Remember mid last year when everyone was excited about Spore, the Will Wright [masterpiece] being released on the Wii. It was reported on a whole heap of Wii sites that Spore was headed to the Wii, but alas the release info just hitting the net seems to be lacking of Wii love.

Will Wright stated “We’re doing Spore on the Wii,” and it’s no secret Wright is a fan of the little console that can. Still, that aside there’s no mention of the Wii in the official press release which states:

Maxis today announced that Spore, the highly anticipated game from the creators of The Sims, will be available at retailers worldwide the weekend of September 7. Spore will be available for the PC, Macintosh, Nintendo DS, and mobile phones.

Perhaps it’s still in the works. It seems so unlike EA and Maxis not to cover every possible console in Will Wright love. We’ll keep you posted.
